Summary — the short version
- We collect only the data needed to sell, install and service your solar system.
- We never sell your data to anyone.
- Your data is stored securely on our own systems in Tanzania.
- You can ask for a copy, correction or deletion of your data at any time.
PAY-GO Africa ("we", "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of our customers and everyone who contacts us. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why, how we protect it, and your rights under the Tanzania Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 (PDPA).
1. Data we collect
1.1 When you register interest or contact us
- Your full name, phone number, and the ward/area you tell us.
- The package you are interested in.
1.2 When you become a customer
- Your name, national ID number, phone number and home address.
- The location (GPS) of your installation, so our technicians can find and service your home.
- Your contract and payment history (amounts, dates, payment method — never your M-Pesa PIN).
- Installation photos and service records for your system.
1.3 Data we do not collect
- We do not collect biometric data.
- We do not read your messages, contacts or call history.
- We never ask for your mobile money PIN — not by phone, SMS or in person.
2. How we use your data
- To contact you — our agent calls you after you register interest.
- To deliver your system — surveys, installation and after-sales service.
- To run your payment plan — recording payments, sending SMS receipts and activation tokens, and keeping your system on while you are in good standing.
- Legal obligations — reporting required by Tanzanian law and energy regulations.
- Security and fraud prevention — protecting your account and our systems.
3. Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data. We share only what is needed, with:
- Mobile money providers (Vodacom M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Tigo Pesa) — to process your payments.
- SMS delivery partners (e.g. Africa's Talking) — to send your receipts and activation tokens.
- Regulators — where Tanzanian law requires it (for example off-grid energy reporting).
4. How we protect your data
- Your data is stored on our own secured systems, encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Access is limited to staff who need it for their work, and every action is logged.
- Passwords and access keys are never stored in plain text.
- If a data breach ever affects your data, we will tell you within 72 hours of becoming aware, as required by law.
5. How long we keep your data
- Register-interest details — kept while we follow up with you, then deleted or anonymised within 12 months if you do not become a customer.
- Customer and contract records — kept for the life of your plan and afterwards as required by Tanzanian tax and energy law (payment records up to 7 years).
6. Your rights
Under the Tanzania PDPA you can:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct wrong or incomplete data;
- ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention duties;
- object to certain uses of your data;
- withdraw consent where we rely on it (for example marketing messages).
To use any of these rights, contact us at [email protected] or call +255 700 000 000. We respond within 30 days; exercising your rights is free. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Tanzania Personal Data Protection Commission.
